With the MAX concept recently introduced and NetEnt having acknowledged the criticism regarding the low potential of their games, we were a bit more excited than usual when firing up Double Stacks for our review. Initially, after having seen the splash screen, we assumed it had an absolute max win of 1000x and were quite disappointed. Thankfully, as can be seen in the promo video, it's the max win per single spin. This means, in theory at least, that you can win well over 10,000 times the stake in a single bonus.

Double Stacks is a 5-reel, 3-row, 10-line video slot featuring a Double Stacks feature and Free Spins with stacked wilds. The bet size for this slot range from a minimum bet of €0.10 all the way up to a maximum of €200, meaning high rollers can land €200,000 wins per single spin on this game.

Regarding volatility, it's likely somewhere in the medium part of the scale, but with NetEnt it's been hard to tell with some games as they've been known to behave like high variance games yet with payouts more in common with low to medium variance games. As always with NetEnt, the RTP is in the acceptable range at 96.1% and easy to find on the game overview page.

Visually this is a stunning slot with Starburst and Twin Spin kind of vibes. The soundtrack, however, should be a topic of its own! It's actually one of the first things we noticed when starting up the game and absolutely fell in love with. Now, music is a question of taste so we can only speak for ourselves, but this 80's homage soundtrack is just outstanding and could have made an excellent intro for TV-series like Stranger Things. We'll rip it NetEnt, and have it playing in the background!

Double Stacks Slot: Symbols & Paytable

The paytable is quite straight-forward which we're thankful for on a hot summers day like this when the brain is cooking. There are 8 regular symbols included in the game; 4 low-value symbols represented by watermelons, lemons, plums and cherries, and 4 premium symbols made out of bells, bars, sevens and diamonds.

The diamond is of the highest value, worth 4,5 times the stake for 5 across a full payline. All premium symbols appear stacked on the reels, and the primary objective of the game is to preferably try and land a full screen of diamonds which activates the max win of 1000x. The max win in relation to the current bet size is displayed on top of the reel set for each of the high-value symbols.

Aside from the regular symbols, you'll also find a standard Scatter symbol and a Wild that compared to the regular symbols do not appear stacked in the main game.

Double Stacks Slot: Feature

This feature is activated when a reel stops and all symbols on it are of the same type. All symbols on the reel will count as two symbols when calculating wins for the current spin.

Double Stacks Slot: Free Spins

3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the reels in the main game activates 5, 15 or 30 Free Spins respectively. During Free Spins, in addition to the 4 highest paying symbols appearing in stacks on the reels, Wild symbols also appear in stacks as well which of course increase the chance of triggering the max win. 2, 3, 4 or 5 Scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the reels will award extra 2, 5, 15 or 30 Free Spins respectively.
